Firefighter trapped, severely injured while battling south Charlotte house fire

VIDEO: A firefighter was injured after he was trapped while battling a house fire in south Charlotte early Tuesday morning. The blaze broke out around 1:45 a.m. on Ledger Court, in the Landen Meadows neighborhood off of Community House Drive. Charlotte Fire Battalion Chief John Lipcsak said the fire began in the home’s garage, and that after about 30 minutes of fighting the flames, a “catastrophic collapse” happened on the second floor. The firefighter from Engine 24 was briefly trapped and was taken to the hospital with minor injuries and for evaluation. Initially, paramedics described his injuries as severe. He has since been released from the hospital and is expected to make a full recovery.
