PHOTOS: Firefighters had a “very busy day” as they responded to a pair of fires that broke out in Roanoke Rapids this weekend, the fire department said.
The first one broke out on Saturday afternoon as crews with the Roanoke Rapids Fire Department were dispatched to a house fire at around 3 p.m.
When firefighters arrived on scene, they found a single-family home with heavy fire and smoke. Crews tried to knock down the fire from inside the burning structure, but weren’t able to due to the amount of debris and flames surrounding the house, fire officials said. Crews then immediately transitioned to attempting to control the blaze from outside the building, mainly using aerial operations. The firefighters remained on scene until roughly 9:30 p.m.
