A North Carolina firefighter was among the victims of Helene, according to a post on the Asheville Fire Department's Facebook page. The post, shared from a page called "Fire Service Line of Duty Deaths," said 52-year-old Tony Garrison of the Garren Creek Fire Department was killed on Friday, Sept. 27, while conducting rescue operations. "Our hearts are heavy as we learn the loss of a neighboring fellow firefighter who tragically lost his life in the line of duty during TS Helene," Asheville Fire Department said in the post. The post said Garrison was killed while trying to make a rescue when a second landslide occurred.
