VIDEO: An answer on the other end of the line is something Adam Carlson said provided an instant feeling of relief. In just three hours, Carlson said he dialed on his phone and made between 50-70 calls Wednesday morning. “Honestly, today has been very rewarding,” said Carlson of Rolesville. “A lot of the lines are green today, which is a nice sign because green means that we’ve made contact and everybody’s okay.” After 20-plus years, Carlson said he was forced to leave his position as an officer in law enforcement after injuring his back. He said it’s prevented him from getting his boots on the ground to directly help people impacted by Hurricane Helene in western North Carolina. “What we’re doing is really minor in the grand scheme of things. Their lives are shattered and completely changed — this is a little bit that we can give to them,” said Carlson.
