Bald Head Island is a paradise for many, but after a fire broke out last Friday, one family’s dream home is now looking like a nightmare.
It’s a site you don’t often see on the picturesque island.
“It does not happen very often on Bald Head,” Fire Chief Joshua Gibson said.
The home was under renovations at the time, which lead Gibson to believe the fire was started by chemicals in the construction equipment. However, officials have not officially identified the cause yet. With only five Bald Head Island firefighters on the island on Friday, Gibson said it was all hands on deck.
Backup from Oak Island and Southport got to the island in under five minutes via a Coast Guard Vessel.
The fire lead to Duke Energy cutting off power to hundreds of homes. The purpose was to make sure no firefighter was electrocuted while battling flames.
