VIDEO: Today was a day of civic duty and responsibility for students in the Greenville Fire/Rescue Jr. Firefighter Academy. Students donated first aid kits to residents of Cypress Glen Retirement Community in Greenville on Thursday. “Nobody is ever too young to be safe and I think every kid should know this so that they can do it if that scenario ever happens,” said 9-year-old Aubrey Allen. The initiative is part of the station’s annual summer program aimed at educating children on various safety topics, including water, fire, and cooking safety. Greenville Fire/Rescue Fire Marshal Bryant Beddard emphasized the importance of teaching safety skills to the students so they can share that knowledge with others. “For example, we taught them hands-on CPR in hopes that they will share that with their family and others in the community,” Beddard said.
