All facilities in Wake County Public Schools are under a fire watch due some abnormalities found during recent inspections. Superintendent Dr. Robert Taylor said this is necessary because recent inspections revealed some issues with the fire alarm panels in more than two dozen schools. “As they were doing periodic inspections, people were looking, and we found some issues,” Director of Fire Services and Emergency Management Darrell Alford said. “We notified the school system once we figured out we may have a problem.” Alford says the fire systems are designed to send two redundant service alerts when maintenance is required. Wake County fire inspectors recently discovered issues with the second self-check and alerting process.
