The town of North Topsail Beach is in the process of demolishing and reconstructing one of its fire stations, an over $6 million project.
The North Topsail Beach Board of Aldermen adopted the capital project ordinance during its Feb. 7 meeting and the project is expected to begin gaining ground next month.
Town Manager Alice Derian explained to The Daily News via email that the project involves demolition of the existing fire station at 3304 Gray Street and construction of a new station on the same property. The current station, which serves the southern half of North Topsail Beach, was constructed in 1987 and is a one-story, pre-engineered metal building on a concrete slab. Derian said it has reached its life expectancy, especially with it being located in a coastal community.
