Fire officials are investigating the cause of a deadly fire that happened early Wednesday off of North Kerr Avenue.
Firefighters responded to the scene after a passerby saw flames shooting through the roof. Around 50 percent of the home was engulfed in flames when first responders arrived, according to Deputy Fire Marshal Ray Griswold.
“They did an aggressive fire attack, knocked it down,” Griswold said. “We eventually found the victim inside the building.”
While the cause of the fire is still under investigation, Griswold mentioned firefighters saw a kerosene heater in the home.
“It’s that time of year, heating season, you know, be safe, don’t refuel inside,” Griswold warned. “You know, again, we’re looking at every aspect and trying to rule out a lot of stuff.”
An autopsy is expected to be performed on the victim, who has not yet been identified.
