The City of Helena is proposing Public Safety Bond and Mill Levies for the June fourth ballot. The Public Safety Levy totals to just over $3 million, with an additional bond at around $500,000.This funding aims to help the police and fire department fund more staffing and resources. On the fire department side, the levy and bond would fund the construction of a third fire station on the north side of town and would staff the additional 15 firefighters needed to operate the new station. Funding for the levy and bond breaks down in two ways. For the 31.66 mills, the levy would cost $42.74 annually for every $100,000 of home market value. For the 5.66 mills, the bond would cost $7.64 annually for every $100,000 of home market value. Combining those together, someone with a home valued at $300,000 would pay an additional $151.13 per year.
