The Monterey Fire Department collected donations over the past two days to help victims of Hurricane Ida.
Organizers said they started the donation drive Sunday after two volunteer firefighters said they had family affected by the storm. The department had three drop-off locations for donations, one being at Fire Station One in Clinton. The other two donation spots were at their fire station on Highway 468 and another in Pearl.
"Anything you can give, these people are desperately in need down there. A lot of them lost everything they got. If you haven't seen pictures of it, Grand Isle is pretty much gone. People down there have pretty much lost everything. We are just trying to do what we can to help out," said Ricky Brown, with the Monterey Fire Department.
The department is accepting water, cleaning supplies, monetary donations, and personal hygiene products for donations.
