First responders rescued two women from a burning home near Kansas City’s South Indian Mound neighborhood as a family of five was displaced. The Kansas City, Missouri, Fire Department says that around 8:15 p.m. on Thursday, July 25, emergency crews were called to the 300 block of Wheeling St., a block away from the Mega Mart Warehouse on Belmont Blvd., with reports of a house fire. When first responders arrived, they said they found flames bursting from a 2-story home. Crews began to knock the fire back as they entered the building. Upon entry, firefighters said they found a female wheelchair-bound resident had been stuck inside. She was brought outside to EMS where she was treated and released. A second woman was found at the back of the home near the stairs and was also helped outside.
