A northeast Missouri house fire set off stored fireworks late Wednesday morning. The blaze at 612 South Center Street, in Shelbina, was reported just after 11:30 a.m. Assistant Fire Chief Allan Wilt with the Shelbina Fire Protection District told KTVO that heavy smoke was pouring from the enclosed front porch of the house when crews arrived. A woman and girl, who are relatives of the homeowner, escaped safely from the burning home. The blaze damaged property stored on the porch, and the flames extended up the walls toward the ceiling. The fire itself was contained to the enclosed front porch, but firefighters say there is smoke damage throughout the two-story structure. Wilt said the cause of the fire will officially go in the books as undetermined and accidental. No firefighters were hurt while battling the blaze.
