1 dead after Duluth apartment fire

One person is dead after a Thursday morning apartment fire in Duluth. According to the Duluth Fire Department, the fire was reported at 2:29 a.m. Thursday on the 600 block of 47th Ave. E. in the Lakeside neighborhood. Crews arrived to the three-story, seven-unit apartment complex with no visible flames, but responders reported seeing light smoke in the first-floor hallway. Residents were told to evacuate, and DFD found an active fire inside one unit on the first floor of the apartment complex. Crews were able to extinguish the fire within 8 minutes while other crews evacuated six residents and multiple pets. According to the Duluth Fire Department, one person was found dead in the apartment unit where the fire was. No other injuries were reported. Officials said damage was limited to the apartment with the fire, with damages estimated around $25,000.
