“This is the largest group we have ever had,” said Scandia Mayor, Christine Maefsky, as she presented a Good Neighbor Proclamation to the Scandia Fire & Rescue department at the July City Council meeting.
The Scandia Good Neighbor award honors individuals, businesses and civic groups who make the community better.
Maefsky nominated the department for the “innumerable sacrifices the volunteer firefighters make in order to serve our community. The Scandia Volunteer Fire and Rescue Squad show strong commitment to our community by being prepared and ready to help our citizens be safe and healthy. They risk their lives to save others, are on call at all times to attend the critical needs of people, some of whom they know personally. They sacrifice time with family to attend to the emergency needs of others; deal with difficult people in crisis, attend required trainings and respond to calls during severe weather events.”
