A U.P. fire department is raising money this week for the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA).
The Marquette Fire Department will be filling the boot for its annual fundraiser collection. Since 2017, the department has raised $70,000 for the MDA through the fundraiser.
They are hoping to raise as much money as they can this year.
New to this year’s fundraiser is a Venmo option for cashless donations.
Marquette Fire Department Firefighter-Paramedic Kevin Serkowski says this fundraiser shows people what it means to be a public servant in the community.
“Being able to give back as much as we can, I mean, that’s why we do this job, to try to help out as many people as possible. The Muscular Dystrophy Association, they help do a lot of research and they help a lot of people out with neural-muscular diseases. So, any way that we’re willing to help another lending hand, we’re happy to do so.”
