A firefighter is recovering and being treated for smoke inhalation following a fire Monday night in McBain. Crews were on the scene keeping an eye on hotspots at Viking Energy of McBain after a fire broke out in one of the plant's loading conveyors. This is in the industrial park area. Once crews got there, they say the fire escalated requiring additional units. “We got a call a little bit before 7 for a report of a fire in one of the plant’s loading conveyors that loads the fuel into the power plant,” McBain Fire Department Chief Jay Deboer said. “We responded to find some fire conditions, conditions escalated pretty quickly once we arrived and ended up requiring additional assistance from some other departments as well.” The fire chief says the building is not a complete loss. Most of the damage was behind the plant.
