Bridgewater Township is asking voters in the Aug. 6 primary election to extend its partnerships with other municipal fire departments to serve as township first responders. The 0.4997-mill tax, beginning in 2024 and lasting through 2027, would be dedicated to funding the agreement between the township and the Manchester fire department and the Clinton Fire Department. “It takes a substantial amount of our budget to cover those services,” Township Supervisor Laurie Fromhart said. Bridgewater Township does not have its own fire department. It relies on Manchester and Clinton to provide emergency services, including medical help and fire suppression. The township also does not have a police department, solely using the Michigan State Police to provide assistance.
