PHOTO: The Port Huron Fire Department will soon add a new truck to its fleet.
The new fire engine will be housed at the new White Park station once it opens and will be the department's new Engine Co. 1.
Fire Chief Corey Nicholson said funding for the new fire engine was approved in 2021, costing $646,000, which includes the cost for equipment and fire hose.
"It is worth noting that at today’s fire apparatus prices, the cost would be north of one million dollars," Nicholson said in an email.
Nicholson said the engine has to undergo one more inspection and have some equipment installed before it's ready for service. He said it should be ready sometime in May.
The purchase will allow the department to retire its KME engine, built in 1999.
