Jennifer Ware went to the hospital to give birth to her son, but they said she wasn’t ready to deliver and sent her home. “And then I had to call 911,” Ware said. “I thought I was going to make it back to the hospital, but when I came back, I was coming back with the baby.” That was in 2005. Ware gave birth to Jermir Bennett, the youngest of her five children, at home with the help of Ypsilanti Fire Department firefighters Greg Brierley and Joe Knasiak. Bennett, now 17, was reunited with the men who delivered him this week for the first time since his birth. “They said they couldn’t miss it, had to come see me graduate,” Bennett said. Brierly and Knasiak met with Bennett and his family on Wednesday, May 25, the afternoon of his graduation from Washtenaw International High School. While firefighters sometimes get a thank you card, being invited to a family function was special, they said.
