Around 3 a.m. neighbors on Rose Street woke up to popping sounds from across the street.
“I heard several explosions, and they jumped up and I saw the police cars. I saw the firemen had just arrived,” a neighbor describes.
The Petoskey Department of Public Safety was sent to the scene and reported flames coming from the garage of a house, and that the fire already spread to the home. The only person inside of the house had been woken up by the fire alarm, and was sitting on the front porch when the first responders arrived. Resort Bear Creek Fire Department was called for help, and started evacuating residents of the home next door to the fire. Neighbors also arrived to help, and spent time removing artwork and personal items from the home before they could be destroyed.
Two nearby homes suffered some damage from not only the fire, but also from the water.
