The Grand Rapids Fire Department believes two fires were set intentionally Tuesday morning on the city’s southeast side. Lt. Bill Smith said the fires occurred within a mile of each other. One was at an occupied home and the other was a vehicle fire. The involved home is located in the 1400 block of Sigsbee Street SE. Crews were called to the scene around 5:30 a.m. Upon arrival, they found the home with alarms sounding and smoke inside. An active fire was near the rear entry area and was quickly extinguished, police say. The involved car was in the 100 block of Niagara Avenue SE. That fire was reported around 6:30 a.m. and was "well involved" when police arrived. No injuries were reported from the fires. Both are currently under investigation, and Police say the possibility of the two fires being connected is under consideration.
