The Troy Fire Department has presented a Civilian Citation to a resident who used a fire extinguisher to contain a fire in a neighboring apartment, giving tenants time to be alerted and escape the building.
Jeff Dunstan helped his neighbor at the Somerset Park Apartments, in the area of Big Beaver Road and Coolidge Highway, after she discovered a fire in a bathroom fan in the early hours of Nov. 26.
“The department would like to extend our sincere appreciation to Mr. Dunstan for his actions, which unquestionably protected many fellow residents and their property from being damaged or lost by fire,” the Fire Department said in a release.
The woman called 911 to report the fire, adding that her neighbor had used a fire extinguisher but wasn’t sure the fire was out.
