Three boaters were rescued from Lake Erie in Monroe County Sunday afternoon when their vessel overturned.
According to a press release from the Monroe County Sheriff's Office, authorities received a call around 3:30 p.m., stating a vessel had overturned offshore from Sterling State Park and that three people were in the water. The sheriff's office marine unit responded to the scene, alongside the Frenchtown Township Fire Department and South Shore Marine Towing.
The three boaters in the water had been rescued by several good Samaritans who had been fishing nearby when the vessel began sinking, the sheriff's office said. All three boaters were transported to the park's boat launch, where paramedics evaluated them.
One boater was transported to the hospital for non-life threatening injuries sustained in the incident.

A new addition to the township’s lineup of fire stations could also be Michigan’s first net-zero fire station.
Although engineering is still in the research and planning phases, the Canton Township Planning Commission approved a site plan May 6 for a new fire station, the township’s fourth, at the southwest corner of Michigan Avenue and South Lilley Road.
A fourth station has long been in the plan for the township, said Canton Township Fire Chief Christopher Stoecklein, and now that it's coming to fruition, the township's current board of trustees has also expressed interest in incorporating alternative energy to develop a full green energy net-zero station.
“We’re researching to figure out the most cost-effective way of having alternative energy in the station,” Stoecklein said.

VIDEO: A memorable, educational event for kids said its final goodbye.
The Junior League of Kalamazoo held their 13th and final Touch-A-Truck event Saturday.
The event showcased trucks of all kinds from the area for kids to explore, gaining hands-on educational experience.
Young participants had the chance to blare the sirens and horns of fire trucks, police cruisers, large construction equipment, and more.
While the trucks were the main focus and namesake of the event, it featured much more for attendees.
"It's a great way to bring people together outside, get to meet our first responders, and we have free dental check ups eye checks. There is foster child community services here, so it’s a really really great way to get everybody together and provide services at the same time," said Holly Lee, chairperson for Touch a Truck 2024.
