A 75-year-old New Sharon man reported missing Monday was rescued from a bog Friday afternoon. According to the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife, Michael Altmaier was reported missing after never showing up for a scheduled meeting in Weld. His car was discovered Thursday night at the Mount Blue State Park overlook in Weld. Game wardens and a K9 found Altmaier at approximately 3:45 p.m. Friday, less than a mile from where his vehicle was parked. Officials say it is believed that Altmaier had fallen down over a ledged embankment Monday and likely became disoriented. Emergency rescue personnel say he was in surprisingly good condition despite spending four days lying in the bog area. Altmaier was taken to a local hospital where he was admitted for overnight observation.
