VIDEO/PHOTOS: Remnants of Hurricane Beryl ripped through parts of the state Wednesday and into Thursday morning. Heavy rain flooded and washed out roads and damaged buildings across several communities. Parts of the Bates road in the town of Abbot were completely washed out, residents say the road is notorious for sustaining major storm damage. "We've had a lot of problems with washouts on this road," said longtime resident Pamela Knowlton. "They've been trying very very hard to stop it, but every time they do something, it doesn't stop it." Town officials say they've already exhausted a significant amount of resources trying to make the road more resilient, but mother nature keeps winning. "We don't know what to do, we need to talk about it, I cannot keep dumping in hundreds of thousands of dollars," said Abbot Selectman Mickey Knowles.
