VIDEO: With the ceremonial "uncoupling of a hose," Limerick's new fire station is officially open. The town held a dedication ceremony and open house Friday afternoon for its new fire and EMS station. The fire chief says the new station was badly needed because the last one wasn't handicap accessible for the public and wasn't big enough for today's equipment and trucks. "We have a diesel exhaust removal system,” Limerick Fire Chief Vincent Pelletier said. “We did not have that in the old facility. We have a sprinkler system, fire alarm system, we have better living quarters for the people with all the modern amenities for safety and comfort." The new station was more than 20 years in the making. It cost more than $4.76 million to build and was paid for in part by $1.8 million in money from the federal government.
