A fire in Fort Kent left a home destroyed and killed three pets Monday afternoon. The Fort Kent Fire Department responded to a structure fire just before 1:30 p.m. at 98 Brookside Drive Monday. Fire Chief Ed Endee said his crew of 18 — assisted by firefighters from Eagle Lake and Frenchville — attacked the fire with two lines, but the damage was done on arrival. Two individuals were in the home at time of the fire, both escaped without injuries, though two dogs and a cat died in the blaze. Endee says the fire was caused by children playing with sparklers indoors. The sparklers lit a couch on fire, which grew to engulf the house. The impacted family is being assisted by the American Red Cross.
