The town of Oxford is auctioning off a 2003 ambulance. Bidding was set to close Tuesday at 8:40 a.m. on the website for the company Municibid, which specializes in hosting auctions for municipalities looking to sell equipment and vehicles. "This vehicle can be converted into the perfect camper for road trips!" The listing announced. The website’s founder, Greg Berry, said the auctions are a way for towns to get the best offer on used equipment, while the public has broader access to rare items. "Sometimes, these are turned into, basically, RVs or camping machines, if you will, and people live out of them," Berry said of the ambulance. "That was a real big thing during the pandemic; we saw quite a few ambulances be converted to RVs, so that was interesting. We’ve seen food trucks."
