Emergency crews evacuated several homes Thursday evening, July 28, and blocked off a street following the discovery of a grenade. Rockland police said a grenade was found in the basement of a home on James Street. The explosive device was then taken outside the house. Rockland police and fire personnel evacuated homes in the vicinity and closed off James Street which runs between Main and North Main streets. The house is located east of the playground, closer to Main Street. The Maine State Police bomb squad and the Maine Fire Marshal’s Office were contacted and responded.
