Sam's Club in Scarborough had to be evacuated Wednesday morning because of a fire. Scarborough Fire Captain James Butler says they got the call around 7 a.m. Firefighters arrived to find smoke and a small fire in a clothing aisle. An employee had already used a fire extinguisher on the fire. The captain says that was helpful because sprinklers hadn't activated yet and it kept the fire small. Butler says about 25 employees were inside the building when it broke out. They were evacuated safely to the parking lot and no injuries were reported. Firefighters say a battery near some clothing got run over by a forklift, which started the fire. The fire captain says it was accidental. “A battery package was on the floor and a forklift drove over it and it was a lithium ion battery and it exploded and shot into the box of clothing on the floor and started a small fire,” said Butler.
