A man in St. Albans says burning ashes jumped from a grill and started a fire that destroyed his home. Firefighters tell us the flames also spread to about five or six acres of wildland. Danny Veysey lives on Bigelow Road. He says the fire started when he tried to light his barbecue. The wind caught some of the burning ashes and blew them out of the grill. That sparked a fire. Veysey says he tried to put it out himself, but the wind was too much. “Dialed 911, they got here very quickly, but it was just hard to put out,” Veysey explained. “I feel a little stupid, I can tell you that. I barbecued all my life, and I’ve never burned my house down.” Veysey says he has insurance. He tell us the injury above his eye actually happened a few weeks ago during a different windy day, but with all that was going on today, the cut above his eye reopened.
