Region: 6-year-old and 9-year-old hospitalized after apartment fire in Southeast DC

Two children were hospitalized with serious injuries following an apartment fire in Southeast D.C. According to DC Fire and EMS, the fire ignited at an apartment in the 3300 block of 6th Street. Fire officials say two children to taken to an area hospital. One of those children is in critical condition and another was seriously injured. A third child was taken to the hospital for an evaluation. The fire, which was in a first-floor unit, has since been extinguished. One of the children was a 6-year-old who was rescued by firefighters and the second child is a 9-year-old who was found outside, according to DC Fire and EMS. A neighbor told WUSA9 that one of the children managed to escape the building and called for help. "It was a little boy sitting out front, and he didn't know what to do he didn't have any clothes on," the neighbor said.
