Edgewater Boat Fire: Vessel Sinks, 2 Sent To Hospital

PHOTO: Officials said a boat caught fire and eventually sank Friday morning in Edgewater. Two patients went to an unnamed trauma center as a precaution. The Woodland Beach Volunteer Fire Department announced the blaze at 8:25 a.m. The boat sank by 9:26 a.m., authorities said in an update. Crews said they first found the burning vessel near the 3900 block of Calawasse Road. Photos from the scene showed the boat adrift in Whitemarsh Creek. Nearby residents reported hearing an explosion when the fire started. The Anne Arundel County Fire Department said it assisted the response from the Maryland Department of Natural Resources, which is the lead agency handling the investigation. The Annapolis Fire Department was also on the scene.
