On Tuesday, the Cobb Island Volunteer Fire Department and EMS donated $200,000 worth of apparatus to the Charles County High School Fire Rescue Cadet Program.
The high school program has 17 student cadets enrolled working toward eight different certifications and 17 college credits. According to Charles County Fire & EMS Coordinator Bill Smith, “This is a one year ‘career and tech education’ program partnered with the University of Maryland Fire Rescue Institute, the Charles County Board of Education, the Charles County Volunteer Firemen’s Association Inc. and Charles County Association of Emergency Medical Services Inc.”
The equipment received Tuesday replaces older units that were donated previously by the La Plata VFD. The new apparatus allows the students to train with high tech equipment that is able to stay at the training facility.
