The son of Mayor Thomas Koch was one of 16 new Quincy firefighters sworn Tuesday in a ceremony at city hall. All 16 of the new recruits are military veterans. Thomas Koch Jr. was sworn in by his father more than a year after returning from serving in the U.S. Marine Corps. "The City of Quincy thanks each of these candidates for their service to our nation and we wish them the best of luck as they enter into the academy," the mayor said. Koch Jr. is the second of the mayor's sons to be sworn in as a Quincy first responder. Cornelius Koch, the mayor's oldest son, has been a police officer since April 2020. The mayor said he recused himself from the hiring process of new Quincy fire recruits because of his son, who was tied for fifth on the list of civil service candidates, he said.
