A heavy fire at a two-and-a-half-story Brighton home killed one person overnight and sent two firefighters and a resident to the hospital, officials said.
Around 12:30 a.m., firefighters responded to 32 Perthshire Road for reports of a fire on the home’s second and third floor back porches, the Boston Fire Department said.
Witnesses said that the person killed was trying to make sure everyone had escaped the building, multiple news outlets reported.
The fire later spread from the porches to the attic, and firefighters issued a second and third alarm for the blaze, the department said.
One resident was saved from the second-floor roof, officials said.
The resident, a woman, had left the house via a third-floor window, Boston Fire Commissioner Jack Dempsey told WCVB. The network reported that the woman’s boyfriend was the person killed in the fire.
