Students were evacuated from Pioneer Valley Performing Arts Charter School in South Hadley Tuesday morning due to the smell of gas. According to South Hadley Fire District 1 Chief Bob Authier, a staff member reported the smell of natural gas near the school's auditorium just before 9:30 a.m. The school was evacuated shortly thereafter and Eversource was called to do a full check of the building. However, no gas was detected. We've learned students were allowed to return to the building around 11 a.m. after the building was deemed safe. There's still no word on the exact cause of the odor, but fire officials said a contractor will be coming to the school to look further into the issue.
