Firefighters on Monday night extinguished a smoldering fire that caused heavy interior damage to a home at 125 Glendale Road, according to Fire Chief John Workman.
No one was injured in the fire, reported just after 6 p.m. because the house was unoccupied. The new owners of the property were in the process of moving in, he said.
The home is not fit for habitation until repairs can be made, he said. Fire damage was limited to the basement and one room on the first floor. The fire ate through a section of the floor, he said.
The remainder of the building sustained heavy smoke and water damage. Damage was estimated at $50,000.
Neighbors called to report the fire at around 6 p.m. after seeing smoke, and when firefighters arrived on scene, they could see heavy smoke coming from the eaves, and flames just inside the front door.
