Ten people have been displaced in a New Bedford fire that damaged a three-family home on Roosevelt Street earlier today. New Bedford Fire Department spokesperson Steve Medeiros said firefighters were called out to 11 Roosevelt St. at 11:15 a.m. Tuesday for a smell of smoke. All of the residents had evacuated the building when crews arrived, Medeiros said, and no injuries were reported. Fire crews found the second floor of the triple-decker full of smoke, with an active fire behind the Humphrey heater — a type of gas heater often found in older homes — and in the chimney chase. Crews also found fire in the floor of the apartment, according to Medeiros. He said firefighters were able to put out the blaze in around 30 minutes.
