The day before Grafton’s call firefighters successfully battled a raging, three-alarm house fire on Spring Hill Drive last week, part-time Grafton Fire Chief Micky Gauthier told the Select Board that hiring a full-time chief should be the priority.
Grafton firefighters, with the help of local departments, were able to knock down the blaze which gutted the home of Framingham Police Sgt. Paul Patriarca and his family on Feb. 17.
A devastating fire or accident in town brings back in focus the town’s progress into fulfilling the recommendations made last June by the town Fire Study Committee. The town Fire Study Committee recommended significant changes to the department, including hiring a full-time “strong chief” and two full-time officers, a fire prevention officer and training officer.
