VIDEO: A firefighter suffered heat exhaustion while fighting a large house fire in DeSoto Parish on Tuesday afternoon (April 30). It was 3 p.m. when DeSoto Parish Fire Districts 2, 3 and 9 responded to a call of an 1850s home on fire in the 2200 block of Louisiana Highway 172 at Keachi. The residents were not home when the blaze started, authorities report. Due to the size of the home and the heat, Desoto Fire District 1 and Caddo Parish Fire District 4 came to assist. It took firefighters more than three hours to bring the fire under control. The injured firefighter was taken to a hospital for treatment. The cause of the blaze is being investigated by DeSoto fire officials and the DeSoto Parish Sheriff’s Office.
