The Calcasieu Parish Coroner’s office has identified the body found following the fatal fire in Sulphur on Monday as 73-year-old Patricia Leblanc. Sulphur Fire Chief Dan Selph says the department was called out to a garage fire on Mathilda Drive around 3 p.m. on July 19, 2021. “When we arrived on scene, the garage was actively burning. It had vented through a window. There were reports by bystanders and neighbors saying that there was possibly an occupant inside the home,” Selph said. He says when the fire department arrived, the garage was already engulfed in flames. According to authorities, once the fire was extinguished, a burned body was found in the garage seated in a chair. The coroner said the cause of death was burns and smoke inhalation, and there was no sign of foul play.
