Tangipahoa Parish Rural Fire District No. 2 has agreed to renew the district’s insurance policy. The decision came after much discussion on possible ways to reduce the high annual premium, which is rising each year. Administrator Dennis Crocker said the annual premium renewal is about a $40,000 more this year over last year. According to the insurance renewal summary, the 2020-2021 premium was $287,473, and the estimated premium for 2021-2022 is $323,557.11. Both years’ annual premiums included coverage of property, equipment, auto, general liability, management liability and excess liability. A factor behind the increase is the district’s incurring over $700,000 in losses in a five-year period. Insurance costs in general are going up throughout the state, Crocker said.
