A man is dead following a house fire on the 0-99 block of Prospect Street Thursday evening. According to an APD release, a police officer discovered the fire while on patrol around 6 p.m. The officer radioed APD dispatch who then called for the Alexandria Fire Department to respond to the scene. Once the fire was brought under control, firefighters discovered the body of an adult male inside the house. AFD investigators, along with APD detectives and crime scene investigators were also called to the scene to determine both the cause of the fire and the death of the man. APD said that he cause of the fire remains under investigation and that more information will be released after it is confirmed.
