Officials on Monday provided an update on a train fire that occurred Sunday night in the northwest part of the capital city. Officials said crews were sent around 6:45 p.m. Sunday to a report of a train fire near N.W. Water Works Drive and Macvicar Avenue. The location was on the Union Pacific train tracks just north of Interstate 70 and MacVicar Avenue. Officials said the train had been headed east at the time the fire was reported. Upon their arrival, crews found heavy smoke and flames coming from a stacked intermodal container car. With the assistance of the train crews, it was determined the containers did not contain any hazardous materials. Crews were able to extinguish the fire and damage was limited to the two containers where the fire originated. Union Pacific officials said train operations resumed around 11 p.m. Sunday.
