A mobile home sustained significant damage during a fire Monday morning. Sedgwick County Fire District 1 reports that a call came in around 11:30 a.m. for a fire at a mobile home park near 167th and Kellogg near Goddard. Upon arrival, crews found a fire that was exposed through two windows and a back bedroom. Firefighters initially tried to put out the fire from inside, but conditions would worsen due to increased flames and decreasing visibility. Crews then had to get out of the home and fight the fire from the outside. The homeowner was not home at the time of the fire. A cat did lose their life in the fire. The cause of the fire has yet to be determined, though it did start in the back bedroom. The house sustained an 80% loss. The American Red Cross is providing assistance.
