Several people have suffered minor injuries after a fire broke out at an apartment complex in south Wichita. Crews responded shortly before 8 a.m. Monday to the Shores Apartments in the 2800 block of South Emporia. The Wichita Fire Department called out a second alarm shortly after arriving on scene. Fire Chief Tammy Snow said the fire started in the second floor and worked its way into the third floor and the attic. Crews helped some residents get out of the building. Chief Snow said at least six or seven people were being evaluated by EMS, the majority of them for smoke inhalation. One child suffered minor burns. Six units were significantly damaged in the fire, but Snow said everyone who lives in the affected building were displaced due to the electricity being shut off. The Red Cross was called in to assist.
