The Topeka Fire Department said a home collapsed Wednesday morning as firefighters were battling an intentionally set fire. Fire crews responded to a home at 1106 NW Van Buren St. just before 12:45 a.m. When they arrived, firefighters found the home was fully engulfed in flames. TFD said crews were able to keep the fire contained to just that home, but weren’t able to search the inside because it collapsed. A neighbor told firefighters that the home was vacant. A preliminary investigation revealed the cause of the fire was incendiary. The home suffered $28,000 in damage and was ruled a total loss. The Topeka Fire Department said the home did not have any working smoke detectors.
