A fire that erupted in Ellsworth County after a natural gas pipeline explosion is now under control.
There were no injuries and no buildings were damaged.
Officials say the fire near 23rd Rd. and Ave. C, northeast of Ellsworth, started with a rupture in a gas pipe. The cause of that rupture is under investigation.
Northern Natural Gas, which owns the pipeline, shut off the gas to put out the flames, said Keith Haberer, emergency manager for Ellsworth County.
The line is being repaired and Northern Natural Gas says there will be no interruption in service as this is one of multiple lines that provide natural gas to customers in Kansas.
The fires were out in about an hour and a half. The company hopes to have the line operating soon.
